If you’re not used to working from home you might develop a rut and either become easily anxious or bored all the time. Decluttering your home office will benefit you in so many ways. One way is that it will increase your productivity levels. When you walk into your workspace and become overwhelmed, it’s usually based on not having a good organizational routine.
- Create a Morning Routine
- Declutter Your Office Space
- Schedule Break Times
The first thing I like to do when I wake up is head straight to the beverage bar and brew myself a hot cup of coffee or tea. I take in these few minutes of peace, tranquility, and silence before I even think about starting work. This helps maintain a dedicated morning routine.
My morning routine looks a little like this:
5-6 AM: Wake Up
6-7 AM: Brew myself some coffee, either using a french press, espresso machine, or pour over Chemex. If it is an easy morning, then I’ll grab my book with my coffee, sit in a comfy chair and do a little bit of reading. If it’s a busy day, then I immediately start my “to-do” list. I glance over it to double-check what needs to be completed and add to it if necessary.
7-8 AM: If I haven’t decided to work out in the afternoon, I will move my body with some yoga exercises in the morning to get my groove flowing. Never underestimate the effectiveness you will feel once your body has been given those endorphins! After yoga is shower time and getting dressed for the day. I have noticed with working from home that if you do not get dressed and place yourself in that mindset of “get shit done,” then I will never get anything done!
A Clean Workspace Is A Clean Mind Space
I strongly stand by this. After all, there have been one too many times where I have become distracted, unmotivated, and felt simply dirty because there were too many papers, trash, and other unnecessary items cluttering my workspace.
If you are someone like me, then simply having designated spots to place loose papers and receipts will help. If you work mainly through digital, consider going through your computer’s downloads folder, removing any files you do not need, and even those nonessential software you’ve never used. Organize all your documents into specific folders and go through your email inbox, and archive critical emails so you can focus on the most crucial messages.
When I decided to purchase a new laptop for my business I knew immediately that I would want to design a desktop image that acts as a digital file finder. I designed an image with six different squares labeled Freelance, My Business, Paperwork/Receipts, Travel, Screenshots, and To-Do, and placed the respective folders into each square. I can’t tell you how many times this has helped me stay organized and keep on track because when running a business you’re doing more than just the pretty stuff you see on camera!

Breaks Are A Self-Care Act
Too many times have I heard from fellow entrepreneurs “I’m so drained from working today day.” Girlfriend, TAKE A BREAK.
Breaks are meant to be there for you to stop and smell the roses, seriously take them, and do NOT feel guilty for doing so.
