Define Self-Care for You
I believe that the true definition of self-care has been slightly misinterpreted in the past few years.
Self-care isn’t all about bubble baths and expensive spa days. Self-care is simply an activity that we can do deliberately to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Now more than ever, we have to be able to practice self-care for ourselves, in whatever way suits us.
Self-care is different for everyone because only you know how to take care of yourself. It may take some time to find what self-care practices work best for you, but to do that, you have to understand what self-care truly is. Understand that self-care should be something you enjoy doing, and know that self-care doesn’t have to be complicated, time-consuming, or expensive.
Identify Your Favorite Practices
Self-care looks different for everyone. What might work for me may not work for you, so it’s wise to do your research on which self-care practices grab your interest and try them out. A few ideas to practice are below; these are also my most coveted practices.
- Yoga
- Stretching my body with a class of Yoga. Typically I like Hatha classes for destressing or a slow morning.
- Meditation
- Allowing my mind to go free with some Meditation.
- Hygge practices
- Creating a Hygge environment. This can result in cozying up in a comfy spot, lighting a candle, and enjoying the warm atmosphere.
- Me time
- Waking up before sunrise, brewing a hot cuppa, Lighting a candle, snuggling with Peanut, and reading a chapter or two of my current book.
- Taking long, hot bubble baths with a glass of wine and a good book.
Create A Daily Routine You Can Stick To
When you’re starting the journey of a self-care ritual, it’s easiest to go small and then increase as you build your routine. Write up a 10-minute routine that you know you’ll stick to. Start with that, and adjust when you feel like it’s time. It’s that simple, and I know you can do it!
